About Tarrant County Boot Camp for Women

What is the Tarrant County Boot Camp for Women?

A four-week (length may vary during the holiday season), women only, outdoor fitness program led by your Certified Adventure Fitness Trainer, Candy Munson-Lake. Each day, your camp will be 1 hour in length. You will be motivated and inspired. You will have fun, and you will get a fantastic workout!

Are there advantages to exercising outside?

Definitely. Being outdoors, especially, if you have a hectic lifestyle and/or spend most of your day enclosed in an office or car, offers a natural source of rejuvenation. Exercising in the open air invigorates your body and calms your mind. You will find it to be a refreshing alternative to the sweaty crowds and high noise levels commonly found at health clubs and community gyms.

Is boot camp for me?

• Do you need to be held accountable?
• Do you need motivation?
• Do you need to shake up or jump start your fitness program?

If you answered "YES" to any of these questions, then boot camp is for you!

What if I'm not very physically fit?

Regardless of your age or ability, we encourage you to participate. You will not be left behind or asked to complete more than you are capable of doing, safely. You will compete only against yourself, but will work with others for the very best results! Each day, as you become stronger, your workout will increase in intensity--under the watchful eye of a certified fitness professional. By the end of camp, you will be amazed at your accomplishments!

What types of exercises are included in the program?

Core conditioning, cardio training (including short distance running, jumping rope, etc), calisthenics, circuit training, pilates, sport yoga, resistance training, obstacle courses, sports drills, games, and more…all designed to help you reach your health and fitness goals!

Where are the classes held?

Your Arlington boot camp instruction will take place at beautiful River Legacy Park (click here for map). The main entrance is at the intersection of NW Green Oaks Boulevard and Margaret Dr. (just west of Cooper St.). The North Richland Hills camp meets each day, unless otherwise noted, at the scenic Green Valley Community Park (click here for map ).

How often will we meet?

You and your fellow campers will meet for one (1) hour on Monday through Friday in Arlington or on Monday, Wednesday & Friday at the NRH location. All participants will be expected to arrive on time.

What do I need to bring?

You need to bring an exercise mat, a water bottle (to keep you hydrated), hand weights (5-8 lbs.), and a towel. Optional items in the winter: gloves and a hat. All items can be purchased at Target, Walmart, Academy or any sporting goods store.

Note: On chilly mornings, you will want to dress in layers, as you will get warm very fast!

It is also essential that you have a good pair of, properly fitted, running shoes. (Cross-trainers will not provide you with sufficient support.) For assistance in choosing the proper running shoe for you, please visit

What will I get out of participating?

A LOT! You will notice a dramatic improvement in your physical well-being and self-confidence. Camp programs include exercises designed to:

• Tone your butt, hips, thighs, and arms,

• Flatten your stomach,

• Increase strength and stamina,

Reduce body fat, and

Build new friendships.

You will look and feel better. You'll push your intensity levels, and you will reach a higher level of fitness than you, most likely, would achieve on your own. In addition, you will be a part of a supportive community of women, with whom you’ll share a common goal--building a stronger mind and a leaner, healthier body.

What is the cost (or the investment in myself)?

Each 4-week, five (5) days-per-week, boot camp has a registration fee of only $299. That’s 20 hours of instruction for just $14.95 per hour! Personal trainers typically charge between $50 and $120 per hour for their services. This is a great opportunity to receive quality fitness instruction from a certified personal trainer…for just a fraction of the cost!

We are now accepting pre-registration for the next camp. You will have your pre-camp evaluation with your coach prior to the start of camp. You will be notified by email to set up an appointment.

Do I have to go 5 days a week?

Although, the  5-days/week program will give you the best results, you may also choose a   3-days/week option at a cost of only $199.  Generally, attendance in the Monday, Wednesday and Friday sessions  works best for the 3-days/week option.

What is the sign-up process?

Complete the Boot Camp Registration form on this site, and submit it electronically. Once we have received your registration and boot camp payment (you may pay online with a credit card or mail a check), we will send you a confirmation email. You will receive another email, a few days before camp starts, with specific instructions about what to bring, where to meet, when assessments will be held, etc.

What is the assessment about?

The assessment is very simple and takes only about 20 minutes to complete. In most cases, assessments are held the second day of camp. You can expect the following:

  1. An introduction to Tarrant County Boot Camp and answers to any questions you may have.
  2. Welcome packet, including information on nutrition and achieving energy balance.
  3. Simple body measurements—necessary to establish "where you are" prior to beginning camp. We don't care what the measurements show. It is strictly for a post-camp comparison. These numbers and all other information are strictly confidential.
  4. Determination of current weight. Again, the number doesn't matter. We just need a beginning point, so we can accurately track your progress.
  5. Analysis of your body composition. Expect a 3-5% reduction in body fat over the four weeks of camp.

What if my alarm doesn't go off or I feel sick one day - can I do a make-up class?

We do expect and want you to work out everyday. That’s how you get the best and quickest results! However, we understand that there are sometimes unforeseen circumstances. And, although we're usually flexible with make-ups, each is handled on a case-by-case basis. So, please contact your instructor to get approval before attending your make-up class.

What do we do if it rains?

If it is just raining, we will still meet for camp. Each location provides us with a pavilion, and we will work out under these covered areas. If, however, there is threatening weather, you will be notified via email the status of your class.
